What inspired you to begin teaching?
"I've always playing drums, and I started to realize how rewarding it can be to share that passion with others. Seeing how music can build confidence and bring people together really inspired me to begin teaching."
How did it feel to be an apprentice teacher this summer?
"It was both exciting and a little nerve-wracking at first, but overall it was a great experience! I learned a lot—not just about teaching drums, but also about how to connect with students, be patient, and explain things in different ways. Watching students improve each week."
How did Mad Beatz’ training program prepare you to teach?
"Mad Beatz gave me the tools I needed to feel confident in front of a class; all of the great teachers who taught and mentored me gave me the building blocks I needed to begin teaching."
Teacher impact
Culture and excellence that inspires students
"Coach Kion is killing it! Our kids scream and cheer when our Drumline marches in for a performance. Teachers take time to let me know how impressive they sound, and our neighbors ask how their children can be involved when they hear the UC Drumline practicing outside. I imagined it would be a great experience for our children, but I had no idea how huge the impact would be in our building. Universal Creighton’s partnership with Mad Beatz solved an engagement problem: Drumline class is now one of our middle school students' most-requested electives, to the point that there is a waiting list to enroll."
